Human-in-the-loop in AI agents means a human reviews, approves, corrects, or overrides the agent’s output before it takes action. In practice, it is a control pattern where an AI agent handles the routine work, but a person stays in the decision loop for high-risk, ambiguous, or regulated cases.
How It Works
Think of it like a portfolio manager using a junior analyst.
The analyst can scan accounts, flag anomalies, draft recommendations, and prepare paperwork. But the manager signs off before anything goes to a client or hits a trading system. Human-in-the-loop works the same way: the AI agent does the first pass, then routes specific outputs to a human reviewer based on risk, confidence, policy, or dollar amount.
For wealth management, that usually looks like this:

- •A control layer checks whether the case is low-risk or needs review.

Here is how the workflow runs:
