What is grounding in AI Agents? A Guide for CTOs in wealth management
Grounding in AI agents is the practice of tying a model’s output to trusted, verifiable sources so it does not invent facts. In simple terms, a grounded agent answers using evidence from your systems, documents, or tools instead of guessing.
How It Works
Think of grounding like a portfolio manager who never makes a recommendation without checking the latest holdings, market data, and compliance rules. The agent can still reason, but every important claim should be backed by a source it can point to.
In an AI agent, grounding usually happens in three steps:

The agent retrieves:
