Use Qdrant as your default choice if your main problem is finding the right policy clause, prior claim example, or underwriting note quickly and accurately under strict filters. Insurance data is structured enough that metadata-aware retrieval matters more than fancy agent logic.

Add LangChain only when you need orchestration around that retrieval: prompt chaining for claim summaries, tool calling into core systems, or multi-step workflows across documents and APIs.

If I were building an insurance RAG system from scratch:

  • I would store embeddings in Qdrant
  • I would use LangChain only at the application layer
  • I would not make LangChain my database
