If you want to stay relevant in 2026, don’t try to become a data scientist. Learn the small set of skills that let you work with AI tools, validate them, and use them inside the underwriting workflow.

The 5 Skills That Matter Most

  1. Risk feature thinking

    You need to get good at translating client data into features a model can actually use: age bands, liquidity ratios, concentration risk, drawdown tolerance, product mix, and behavioral patterns.
